Greetings unto the populace of Calafia!
Does David and Adelicia, Baron & Baroness of Calafia send!

In keeping with the Plan of Action and Milestones published earlier, here is the "short" list of candiates for the next baroncy of Calafia:

Master Al-Khariji abd al-Khabir Yusuf ibn Khalid and Mistress Fia Naheed.

Lord Oliver Dogberry and Lady Kate Dogberry.

The Honorable Lord Methius Vaux and Mistress Eilidh na Tire Dharigh.

You are invited to hear the candidates speak and to pose your questions to them at a Curia to be held on April 16, 2008 at 7pm. The Curia will __NOT__ be held at Allied Gardens rec. center; it will be taking place at LEWIS MIDDLE SCHOOL instead, in the school's cafeteria. The address is 5170 Greenbrier Avenue, San Diego, CA 92120. Lewis middle school is the school immediately adjacent to the Allied Gardens parking lot. There will be signs posted directing people to the cafeteria.

The Curia will NOT be a garbed event, so please feel free to wear modern clothing.

We will take comments from populace for a period of 30 days after the Curia before making our recommendations to the Crown. Our Heirs will be announced and installed in Court at Potreo in May.

Your comments to us will be kept in the strictest confidence, no specifics will be divulged. Please put your thoughts in writing, either hardcopy via snail-mail, scribbled on a cocktail napkin, wrapped around a rock and tossed against our front door, or electronically via e-mail (Preferred). So send them in between now and May 15, 2008. Don't forget to include your SCA name on your missive.

Unto to all gentles of Calafia and Caid Does David and Adelicia, Baron and Baroness of Calafia, send greetings.

As Calafia enters the new year, we find the Barony at peace with itself, despite the tempestuous occurrences of the year recently ended.

Our Cantons are growing and prospering well, each continues to provide a balanced program of arts and sciences designed to meet the needs of their local populace.

To our knowledge, none of our populace lost homes during the recent wildfires; though some did incur property damage. The Barony continues to work with the Kiwanis club in Potrero to help put residents of that community back in their homes. The Park in Potrero was relatively un-touched and we look forward to working with the Ranger staff to prepare for May War. Look for more work parties in the future.

At Winter Arts, we celebrated the anniversary of the fourth year of our investiture as Baron and Baronesses. We have heard from Mistress Eilidh na Tire Dharigh, the Kingdom Seneschal, regarding the tenure review required by Article V, Part B of Caidan Law. We know that Mistress Eilidh has kept us in a state of "continuous" review since we stepped up, as she has been a trusted advisor and good counselor over our term.

It goes on to say further in that same article of Caidan Law, "If the Baron and/or Baroness wish(es) to step down within a year following the notification, the Baron and/or Baroness shall initiate and complete their transition to a new Baron and/or Baroness within that year." This is what Adelicia and I wish to do.

We proposed to employ the plan used by our predecessors, Their Excellencies, Thorvald and Eloise. We have informed Their Royal Majesties and they have approved this plan. We'd like to implement this plan now so as to "complete the transition to a new Baron and Baroness within that year."

The Plan of Action and Milestones will be:
1. Publicly announce our intent to seek heirs and step down in November 2008.
2. Take Letters of Intent until 1 March 2008.
3. Interview interested Parties during the month of March 2008, producing a "short" list of candidates (four to six couples) by 1 April 2008.
4. In mid-April, we will be holding a Curia for the populace to hear from the interested candidates and giving the populace the opportunity to pose questions to the candidates.
5. Adelicia and I would then take populace's comments off-line for a period of thirty days before making our decision. After this time we will be making our recommendation for successors to the Crown.
6. We would announce and install our Reeve and Reevess during Court at May Potrero War. This would begin their half-year training period.
7. Our Seneschal, THLady Muirrenn ingen Dondubain, would work with her Superior, Baron Tofi Kerthjalfadsson to begin the polling the populace for their support in September. The poll will be completed in October 2008.
8. With the support of the populace and their training completed, the new Baron and Baroness would be installed at Calafia Anniversary after we depart the thrones of Calafia on 15 November 2008.

A man we deeply respect said of being Baron of Calafia, "What a long, strange trip its' been." That sums it up, but then not quite.

This is a portion of our lives together that neither of us would trade for anything. We thank you for having trusted us with your Barony. We firmly believe that the Barony knows what it needs in its next Baron and Baroness; we just need to have the wisdom and patience to listen.
